Exceptional renewal of Lebanese passports to visit the holy shrines in Iraq

The General Directorate of Public Security in Lebanon announced an exceptional renewal of the expired Lebanese passports to visit the holy shrines in Iraq.

The Directorate stated, in a statement, that “as a result of discussions held by the Director General of Public Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, during his recent visit to the Republic of Iraq, it was agreed to allow Lebanese nationals visiting the holy shrines to enter Iraqi territory on the basis of renewed passports under the following conditions:

• The passport must be of the “2003” model, or a biometric passport renewed for a period of no less than six months, accompanied by a valid entry visa issued by the Iraqi authorities.
• The solar drawing appear on the passport, with no change in the characteristics of the person concerned.
• The purpose of visit must be exclusively to visit the holy places. He added that those wishing to travel to the Republic of Iraq to visit the holy places and who are holders of expired Lebanese passports, or those whose validity is less than six months, must apply from the regional public security centers to renew their passports for a period of one year after paying the due fees.
