Officials of Khorasan Province announced that 3.5 million pilgrims from Iran and abroad arrived in the city, 500 thousand of them walked on foot from nearby cities.
Officials added that hundreds of mourning processions and service tents were set up to offer free services and food to the pilgrims.
The commemoration ceremonies included mourning processions, lectures on the biography of the Imam, peace be upon him, in addition to a Quran session participated by well-known Quran reciters and memorizers.
