United Nations: One in four women and one in two children suffer from malnutrition in Afghanistan

Humanitarian workers in Afghanistan have warned that “one in four pregnant women and one in two children” suffer from malnutrition in the country, and half of the people do not know where their next meal will come from.
The United Nations News website quoted Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the United Nations, saying that, according to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Uruzgan County Hospital for Corona patients suspended its medical services due to lack of funds and lack of medical supplies and equipment.
He said that the International Organization for Migration provides winter assistance in the Badakhshan regions to 1,000 families, including shelter, non-food items and clothing.
“Our humanitarian colleagues stress that while the response in Afghanistan continues, the international community must do much more,” he added.
Haq noted that the emergency appeal for Afghanistan, which targeted 11 million people with aid until the end of 2021, was funded by 86%, and said that “so far, 524 million US dollars have been received.”
