The Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, criticized the government of Chancellor Sebastian Curtis for launching a website called “The National Map of Islam,” noting that the site promotes apartheid in Austrian society.
Ludwig explained in a tweet via Twitter, that the website’s publication of detailed information on 600 Islamic institutions in the country will lead to racial segregation in society.
He added that the digital map will not contribute to integration into society, expressing his support for living together on the basis of unity and mutual respect in Vienna and throughout Austria.
On Saturday, Integration Minister Susan Rapp launched a website called “National Map of Islam” prepared by the Political Islam Documentation Center that lists all the names and locations of more than 620 mosques, Muslim associations and Muslim officials.
According to the Minister of Integration, the map does not aim to “put Muslims in general in doubt.”
She added, in a press conference, on Friday, that “the goal was to fight political ideologies, not religion.”
