Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is grateful to the people who convert to Islam for carefully conserving Christian monuments in Syria.
In an interview with journalist Yevgeny Poddubny, Putin added in the documentary “There is no room for error. The Christmas visit to Damascus”: “It was not expected for me that the remains of John the Baptist would be carefully preserved in the mosque and be honored in the Islamic world. Among the Muslims he is Yahya. Likewise, Jesus Christ is honored there. He is Jesus among the Muslims.”
The Russian president stressed that “this rapprochement between the two world religions, which is based on common moral and ethical values, and common human values, cannot but arouse interest and respect.”
