Unknown gunmen, believed to be ISIS militants, killed 13 Hazara Shia Muslims in the Talawa Barfak district of Baghlan province on Friday, officials said.
The gunmen killed several civilians in the Anar Darah area of Tala wa Barfak district at approximately 2:30 p.m. (local time), Mahmood Haqmal, spokesman of Baghlan governor, told Afghan Islamic Press.
Preliminary reports suggested that those killed by the gunmen were coalminers.The victims were members of Shia Muslims Hazara community and hailing from Bamyan province, he said.
District administrator Faiz Muhammad Amiri, meanwhile, said the so-called Islamic State militants might be behind the attack.
