Damascus Warns of Possible Druze Offensive in Suwayda Amid Allegations of Israeli Support
——————————————
The Syrian government has expressed concern that armed Druze factions in the southern province of Suwayda could launch a new operation against government forces, amid allegations that Israel is encouraging the groups and providing military assistance. The concerns were reported by The Jerusalem Post on October 19, citing a senior Syrian government official, as tensions continue over the future of the predominantly Druze province.

According to the official, armed groups have been gathering near contact lines, raising fears of renewed fighting in southern Syria. The official also alleged that Israeli reconnaissance flights over Suwayda and surrounding areas had intensified and claimed that an Israeli helicopter had delivered weapons and ammunition to the province. These claims have been reported as allegations by Syrian officials and have not been independently established by the sources reviewed.

The latest concerns follow the clashes that erupted in Suwayda in July 2025 between Druze armed groups, Bedouin fighters and Syrian government forces.
