A historic minaret at the Karbala Zain-ud-Daula Bahadur complex, also known as Karbala Dayanat-ud-Daulah, collapsed on Monday morning, October 12, in the Kazmain area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. No casualties were reported, as no one was near the structure when it fell, according to local media reports.
The religious complex dates to the 19th century and was built during the era of the Nawabs of Awadh. Local residents said the minaret had been leaning to one side for years and that concerns about its deteriorating condition had previously been raised. They accused the responsible authorities of failing to carry out timely maintenance and restoration work.
Following the collapse, local representatives and religious figures visited the site and called for an investigation into the incident. They also urged officials to secure the surrounding area, assess the condition of the remaining structures and determine responsibility for the failure to preserve the historic monument. The incident has renewed concerns about the protection and maintenance of religious heritage sites in the region.
