WHO: Israeli Approval Process Delays Medical Supplies to Gaza
————————————
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that medical supplies destined for Gaza face lengthy delays in obtaining Israeli approval, with shipments waiting an average of 74 days, while no hospital in the territory is currently operating at full capacity.

Reinhilde Van De Weerdt, WHO representative for the occupied Palestinian territory, said the prolonged approval process and shortages of medicines and medical equipment are hindering efforts to restore Gaza’s health system. She called for unhindered and predictable humanitarian access to allow essential supplies to reach hospitals.

According to WHO analysis, about 87 percent of medicines submitted for approval are cleared, while medical equipment, including X-ray machines and CT scanner components, is regularly rejected without explanation.

The agency warned that prolonged storage and transportation delays increase the risk of medicines expiring and equipment being damaged before reaching patients.

WHO also reported continued security and logistical restrictions at crossings. Its teams must use armored vehicles and personal protective equipment to collect supplies from the Kerem Shalom crossing, while aid shipments can face prolonged waits.
