Global Health Security Warnings Grow Amid Ebola Outbreak
————————————-
A U.S. global health security expert has warned that challenges in containing Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo highlight vulnerabilities in the global health security system and could signal the emergence of more complex biological threats.
Stephanie Psaki, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and former global health security coordinator at the U.S. National Security Council, said repeated outbreaks of Ebola and other dangerous viruses underscore the need for stronger disease surveillance, early-warning systems and rapid international responses.
She also warned about risks associated with advanced biological research and the growing use of artificial intelligence in biological sciences, while noting that these technologies could also accelerate the development of medicines and vaccines.
The warnings highlight calls for greater investment in epidemic preparedness, biosafety and international cooperation to strengthen the global response to both naturally occurring outbreaks and emerging biological threats.
