IOM Reports 69% of Afghan Returnees Without Jobs, Facing Difficulties Meeting Basic Needs
————————–
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported in its latest assessment that nearly 6.4 million Afghan nationals have returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan between mid-2023 and August 2026.
According to the assessment, 69% of returnees were not employed, while 54% were unable to meet their basic needs.
The Afghan newspaper 8am reported that limited access to healthcare, shelter, and safe drinking water, along with a lack of identity and civil documentation, is creating significant challenges for the returnees as they seek to reintegrate into their communities.
