Indonesia Hosts International Conference of Muslim Leaders from 39 Countries

Religious leaders, imams and representatives of Islamic institutions from 39 countries are gathering in Jakarta, Indonesia, for an international conference focused on the role of mosques and religious diplomacy in promoting peace.

According to Muslims Around the World, the conference was held from September 25 to 28, 2026, under the theme “Harmony in the Mosque, Religious Diplomacy and World Peace.” Discussions are addressing the role of mosques and religious leaders in promoting mutual understanding, preventing conflicts and supporting peace.

The Bulgarian delegation’s visit includes preparations for a memorandum of understanding between Bulgaria’s Grand Mufti and Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH). The agreement is intended to establish institutional cooperation on halal certification, facilitate the exchange of expertise and examine possibilities for mutual recognition of certifications.

During the visit, the Bulgarian delegation also met Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Tania Stoyanova, to discuss the conference and the delegation’s participation in its activities. The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts, including an album presented by the Grand Mufti highlighting Bulgaria’s mosques and Islamic architectural heritage.
