Vienna Islamic Center Discusses Rising Islamophobia, Ways to Promote Prevention and Coexistence

The Islamic Center of Vienna hosted a dialogue seminar addressing the rise of Islamophobia and discrimination against Muslims in Austria and Europe, bringing together Islamic leaders, experts, and representatives of community institutions to discuss causes, challenges, and possible solutions.

Held on September 19, 2026, to mark the International Day of Peace, the event was titled “Islamophobia: Understanding Causes, Analyzing Challenges, and Strengthening Prevention.” Participants examined current developments related to racism and anti-Muslim discrimination and their impact on European societies.

Speakers highlighted the importance of prevention programs, public awareness initiatives, and stronger communication between institutions and communities to counter hate and promote mutual respect. They emphasized that dialogue should lead to practical measures supporting peaceful coexistence.

The seminar included representatives from Muslim organizations in Austria and Germany, including leaders from Islamic communities, experts in extremism prevention and rehabilitation, legal advisors, educators, and specialists documenting Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism.

Discussions also addressed the role of international legal frameworks and the Makkah Charter as references for promoting tolerance, dignity, and respect among different communities.
