Indian Cleric Highlights Imam al-Hasan al-Askari’s Role in Preparing Shia Community for Era of Occultation

Indian scholar Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Mahdi Abbas Zaidi highlighted the life and teachings of Imam al-Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him), emphasizing his role in guiding the Shia community during a critical historical period and preparing believers for the era of the occultation of Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).

Speaking during Friday prayers in Chajupura Sadat, Uttar Pradesh, Zaidi discussed the religious, doctrinal, and educational dimensions of Imam al-Askari’s life. He said the Imam’s era was a sensitive stage in Shia history as the community was approaching a period in which direct access to the Imam would no longer be available.

Zaidi explained that Imam al-Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him) established communication networks through letters and trusted representatives, who conveyed religious guidance, answered questions, and addressed community affairs. He said this system helped lay the foundations needed by Shia Muslims during the period of occultation.

The cleric also addressed concepts such as religious following, representation, and the role of scholars in guiding the community, stating that the Imam’s life provides insights into the responsibilities of trusted religious figures during the absence of direct access to the Imam.

Discussing the concept of awaiting Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), Zaidi emphasized that it should be reflected in faith, worship, ethics, personal conduct, and social responsibility.

He called for greater attention to religious and moral education among younger generations and encouraged believers to follow the teachings and example of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
