Shi’a communities are commemorated the anniversary of the martyrdom of Lady Fatima al-Masuma (peace be upon her) on 10 Rabi‘ al-Thani, honoring her as a prominent figure of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and a symbol of religious knowledge, spirituality and devotion.

Born in Medina in 173 AH, Lady Fatima al-Masuma (peace be upon her) was the daughter of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) and was raised in a household of knowledge and piety. Following her father’s imprisonment and martyrdom, her brother Imam Ali al-Ridha (peace be upon him) played a central role in her upbringing and education.

She became known for her knowledge of Islamic teachings and narration of hadith, contributing to the preservation and transmission of the religious heritage of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

According to Shi’a historical accounts, Lady Fatima al-Masuma (peace be upon her) passed away in Qom in 201 AH at the age of 28, although some accounts and historical evidence suggest she was poisoned and was martyred. Her shrine in the holy city of Qom has since become one of the most important religious centers for Shi’a Muslims and a destination for millions of pilgrims.

Her most renowned title is Karima of Ahl al-Bayt (The Generous Lady of Ahl al-Bayt), and those who earn the fortune of visiting her with genuine gnosis of her position are promised Entry to Paradise, as this fact is indicated in her visitation scripture.
