Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said the city remains dedicated to providing fair public services and protecting the rights and dignity of residents regardless of their faith or background.

The statement was issued in response to a federal lawsuit alleging that the city allocated public funds for Ramadan-related events while failing to give similar attention to holidays of other religious groups, according to the Associated Press.

Dearborn officials defended cultural and community programs as part of the city’s recognition of its diverse population, describing claims of hostility toward other religions as unfounded.
