Nepal: Muslim Communities Mobilize Relief Efforts for Flood Victims

Muslim communities across several regions of Nepal have launched a coordinated aid campaign to support families affected by recent floods, highlighting the role of mosques, Islamic schools, and community institutions in humanitarian response efforts.
The initiative was organized following a call from the Islamic Organization of Nepal, with participation from Muslim communities connected to mosques and religious schools in numerous areas, including Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Bara, Parsa, Chitwan, Kathmandu, Tanahun, Palpa, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Nepalgunj, and other regions.
Imams, teachers, students, Muslim community leaders, mosque and madrasa management committees, and volunteers took part in collecting and distributing assistance to families impacted by the floods, aiming to help them cope with the difficult conditions caused by the disaster.
The wide geographical participation reflected coordination among Islamic institutions and local communities, transforming expressions of solidarity into practical relief activities to address the needs of affected residents.
Organizers emphasized that the relief efforts were based on humanitarian and national responsibility toward all flood victims, regardless of religious or ethnic background, stressing the importance of cooperation among different segments of society during times of crisis.
Dr. Shamim Ahmed, president of the Islamic Organization of Nepal, praised the contributions of mosque officials, religious school administrators, imams, teachers, students, volunteers, and community committee members who supported the campaign.
He called for continued assistance to affected families, efforts to reduce their suffering, and support for recovery and reconstruction following the floods.
The campaign highlights the expanding social and humanitarian role of mosques and Islamic institutions in Nepal alongside their religious and educational functions, demonstrating community solidarity in responding to natural disasters and supporting those in need.
