First Bahraini Pilgrims Arrive in Najaf Amid New Travel Conditions for Arbaeen Pilgrimage

The first group of Bahraini pilgrims has arrived in Najaf, Iraq, ahead of the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), following a conditional approval by Bahrain’s authorities for travel to the holy sites.

The arrival comes as millions of pilgrims from around the world prepare to travel to Iraq to participate in the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage. The move followed calls by Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi urging authorities to remove restrictions and facilitate pilgrims’ access to Karbala for the Arbaeen walk and rituals.

According to reports, the Bahraini approval includes several conditions, including limiting travel to air routes and restricting participation to individuals above the age of 50. The measures have drawn criticism from some observers who argue that administrative and security restrictions place unnecessary limitations on pilgrims, particularly younger visitors wishing to take part in the religious gathering.

The Arbaeen pilgrimage, held annually in Karbala, attracts millions of visitors from across the world to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and is considered one of the largest religious gatherings globally.
