Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Restricting Imam Hussein’s Visitors Is a Disregard for Hussaini Rituals

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi stated that any measures that obstruct the visitation of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) or restrict the movement of pilgrims constitute a disregard for Hussaini rituals, stressing the importance of facilitating the observance of this religious practice and respecting believers’ rights to participate in it.

In his remarks, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi said that “obstruction under the pretext of law is a disregard for the rituals,” adding that there is no justification for preventing the visitation of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). He warned against governments that impose restrictions on pilgrims, describing such actions as a serious wrongdoing in the view of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

The religious authority highlighted the significant place of Imam Hussein’s visitation among Muslims, noting that millions of believers participate each year in commemorating this occasion, which represents the values of sacrifice, justice, and reform associated with the uprising of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

The remarks come as Iraq’s holy cities continue to receive millions of pilgrims from within Iraq and abroad for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world.

Followers of Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) regard the preservation of Hussaini rituals as an essential part of their religious and cultural identity, reflecting their connection to the principles and values of Imam Hussein’s movement.
