Imam Hussein Shrine Expands Surveillance Network with More Than 2,500 Cameras Ahead of Arba’een

The Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) has completed technical and engineering upgrades to its electronic surveillance and video monitoring systems as part of preparations for the Arba’een pilgrimage, which is expected to attract millions of visitors.

Naseer Al-Ta’i, head of the Electronic Surveillance Division at the shrine’s Security Department, said the upgrades included the installation of new cameras in newly developed areas, including the courtyard of Sayyida Zainab (peace be upon her), the basement of the Imam Hussein Shrine, women’s inspection areas, main entrances, and surrounding locations.

He added that the surveillance division continues coordination with security forces through the Joint Monitoring Division, using advanced technologies including facial recognition systems to support security operations and identify wanted individuals.

Al-Ta’i stated that all equipment linked to the surveillance network has been prepared to ensure full operational readiness during the pilgrimage season. The system now includes more than 2,500 active cameras providing coverage of key locations around the shrine.

The expanded surveillance network aims to enhance security, regulate visitor movement, and support service operations during the annual Arba’een pilgrimage in Karbala.
