Thousands of pilgrims continue their journey on foot toward the holy city of Karbala to commemorate Arba’een of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), traveling through rural routes connecting Diwaniyah and Najaf provinces and passing through the Shamiya district toward Kufa.

The pilgrimage route offers a unique scene combining spiritual devotion with the agricultural landscape of Iraq, as pilgrims walk alongside vast fields of amber rice crops and palm groves stretching across the countryside.

Husseini service processions are spread along the roads, providing pilgrims with essential services including food, water, accommodation, medical assistance, and other forms of support throughout their journey.

The route witnesses large numbers of pilgrims every year, including visitors from different Iraqi provinces and other countries, creating a scene of collective devotion, volunteer service, and social solidarity.

Arba’een pilgrimage is among the world’s largest annual religious gatherings, with millions of visitors traveling to Karbala on foot to commemorate Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
