Researchers have described the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) as one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings, saying it has extended beyond a religious event to become a global humanitarian occasion bringing together millions of people around values of love, brotherhood, and justice.
The researchers noted that the pilgrimage attracts more than 20 million visitors each year to the holy city of Karbala, in a gathering that demonstrates a unique model of collective organization. Thousands of Husseini processions and volunteers provide services to pilgrims without discrimination, reflecting the values of generosity, sacrifice, and social solidarity associated with Imam Hussein’s uprising.
