French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Durel visited the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in the holy city of Karbala on Monday, accompanied by an official delegation.

During the visit, the ambassador emphasized the special significance of the Imam Hussein shrine, saying that his visit to Karbala was different from his previous visits to Iraq, particularly with the approaching Arbaeen pilgrimage, which attracts millions of visitors from around the world and reflects the importance of the occasion on both religious and humanitarian levels.

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein welcomed the French delegation and highlighted the global significance of the Arbaeen pilgrimage, noting the participation of visitors from Arab, European and other countries. He stated that Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) represents a universal symbol of freedom, justice and human dignity, and that his movement carries a humanitarian message calling for support of truth and resistance against injustice.

The visit was part of the French ambassador’s program in Iraq. Earlier, he visited Karbala province and met with the provincial governor to discuss opportunities for cooperation in investment, industry, agriculture, food production and textile sectors, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and France.
