Flash Floods, Landslides Kill 11 in Indian-Administered Kashmir

At least 11 people were killed and seven others remained missing after torrential rains triggered flash floods and landslides in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

The worst-hit area was Surankote in Poonch district, where a landslide buried a house, killing five people. Another family was reported missing after floodwaters swept away their home. Heavy rains also caused house collapses, overflowing rivers and widespread damage in Poonch and neighboring Rajouri district.

Rescue teams from multiple agencies are searching for survivors despite damaged roads and continued rainfall. Authorities have warned of further heavy rain through July 23 and advised residents to avoid flood-prone and landslide-affected areas.

The annual Amarnath pilgrimage was suspended due to the severe weather conditions. Flooding was also reported in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, where flash floods in the Neelum Valley damaged homes and killed livestock.
