Iraq’s High Committee for Mass Pilgrimages Confirms Readiness for Arbaeen, Issues Instructions to Organize Pilgrim Movement

Iraq’s High Committee for Mass Pilgrimages has stressed the importance of intensifying security and service coordination in preparation for the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, while issuing a series of instructions aimed at ensuring the smooth movement of pilgrims and providing the highest levels of security and services during the occasion.

The Joint Operations Command said in a statement that the deputy commander of joint operations and head of the High Committee for Mass Pilgrimages, Lieutenant General Qais al-Mohammadawi, chaired an expanded specialized conference at the command headquarters.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Border Ports Authority, several security commanders, and Interior Ministry directors, along with the police chiefs of Babylon, holy Najaf, Diwaniyah, Muthanna, Dhi Qar, Wasit, and the holy city of Samarra via video conference.

The statement said the conference discussed the Border Ports Authority’s plans to receive pilgrims, as well as the Interior Ministry’s security formations’ plan to secure the Arbaeen pilgrimage. It also reviewed the latest security and service preparations and coordination mechanisms between security units and supporting bodies to ensure protection and smooth movement for pilgrims arriving from inside Iraq and abroad.

According to the statement, al-Mohammadawi directed authorities to organize passenger loading areas designated for transporting pilgrims in order to prevent overcrowding and congestion. He also called for activating traffic police and civil defense units on all routes, strengthening emergency patrols to provide immediate support, securing roads and vital intersections, and focusing on protecting pilgrims’ routes, especially during nighttime hours.

The head of the High Committee for Mass Pilgrimages emphasized that Arbaeen is a global mass event that embodies the values of unity and generosity. He stressed the need for all security and service institutions to coordinate their efforts to present the occasion in a civilized manner worthy of its religious and humanitarian status, while reflecting Iraq’s ability to organize and receive millions of pilgrims from around the world.
