Syria Arrests ISIS-Linked Suspects Over Damascus Bombings During Macron Visit

Syrian authorities said they have arrested several suspects allegedly linked to recent bombings in Damascus during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the capital.
Security officials said the arrests followed operations in central Damascus and nearby areas after the July 7 explosions. Ahmed al-Dalati, head of Damascus Internal Security, told state broadcaster Al-Ikhbariya that investigators first identified one suspect, placed the individual under surveillance, and later arrested other alleged members of the network.
Authorities said preliminary investigations indicate the suspects had links to ISIS, though no public evidence has yet been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
The explosions occurred near the hotel where the French delegation was staying, prompting tighter security around government buildings, diplomatic sites, and public areas. Syrian officials said two explosive devices had been located before the attack but detonated before they could be defused.
The incident came days after another deadly Damascus blast near the Palace of Justice, which authorities also attributed to ISIS.
