The Nigerian Army says troops have killed five militants and rescued 31 kidnapped people during separate security operations in the northern states of Zamfara and Katsina.

According to reports citing Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division, the hostages were freed around the Bagega–Kawaye axis in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State after an air operation and follow-up ground assault on militant hideouts.

The army said the rescued victims had spent several weeks in captivity, received medical care, and would be reunited with their families.

In separate operations, troops killed two militants in Zamfara and three others in Katsina’s Matazu area, while also recovering weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles.
