An explosion ripped through a crowded market in northwest Pakistan’s Lakki Marwat District on Tuesday, killing at least nine people and injuring dozens more, according to police and emergency officials.

Local authorities reported that the blast occurred in the Sarai Naurang market area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghan border — a region that has seen frequent militant violence.

Police sources said the explosion targeted a busy marketplace used by civilians and security personnel, and the blast caused widespread panic, damaged storefronts and vehicles, and drew a large emergency response.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities have cordoned off the area as investigators work to determine the nature and cause of the blast.

This incident follows other recent violent attacks in the region, underscoring ongoing security challenges along Pakistan’s northwest border areas.
