Swedish Youth Group Calls for Deportation of “Islamists” After Easter Unrest

Ungsvenskarna, the youth wing of the Sweden Democrats party, has called for the expulsion of all those it described as “Islamists” from Sweden, following new charges brought against individuals involved in the 2022 Easter riots in the city of Norrköping.

In a post on the social media platform X, the organization said the riots were “one of the consequences of reckless mass immigration,” and shared an image calling for the deportation of all Islamists from the country. The statement came after Swedish prosecutors filed new charges against three men accused of taking part in the Easter disturbances, which erupted in response to authorized demonstrations involving the burning of the Quran.

The remarks have renewed controversy surrounding Ungsvenskarna’s leadership. In November, the organization’s chair, Denise Westerberg, sparked backlash after stating that “there is no place for Islam in Sweden” and calling for a ban on the construction of new mosques.

Swedish authorities charged three men aged between 22 and 31, including a Palestinian national, with offenses related to stone-throwing, erecting barricades, and attacking police during the unrest. Prosecutors have requested the permanent deportation of the Palestinian man if he is convicted.

More than 300 people across Sweden were convicted in connection with the Easter riots, including 25 individuals in Norrköping alone.
