Senior Nigerian Army Officer Killed by ISIS-Affiliated Sunni Extremists

A Nigerian Army brigadier general was killed in a coordinated ambush carried out by ISIS-affiliated Sunni extremist militants in the country’s north, Shia Waves Agency reported.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the officer’s family as well as to the families of other soldiers who were killed.

The ISIS-linked group released an image of the fallen officer, Musa Oba, claiming he was captured and executed after being shot and attempting to escape.

Nigeria has been battling extremist militant groups for more than 16 years, with the conflict concentrated mainly in the northern regions.
