500 Economists Warn G20 Leaders About Explosive Growth in Wealth Inequality
——————————————
More than 500 leading economists and experts—among them several Nobel Prize winners and a former U.S. Treasury Secretary—have called for the creation of a “Global Inequality Panel” ahead of the G20 leaders’ summit, in order to systematically monitor and curb the rapidly widening global wealth gap.
According to the Shia Waves Agency, citing the Financial Times, the proposed panel was introduced by the summit’s host working group, chaired by Joseph Stiglitz, during meetings in Johannesburg.
The initiative aims not only to examine land ownership and tax evasion, but also to analyze the economic and social impacts of wealth concentration on the lives of millions across both rich and poor nations. It would then propose mechanisms for equitable income redistribution and strategies to reduce global inequality.
