British police said a 32-year-old man is the sole suspect in a mass stabbing on a train in eastern England that left 11 people injured, Reuters reported. Authorities confirmed the incident was not linked to terrorism, adding that a second man arrested earlier had been released without charge. Five of the injured passengers have since been discharged, while a train crew member who attempted to stop the attacker remains in critical condition. Police praised his actions as “heroic,” saying they likely saved many lives.

The suspect, described as a Black British national from Peterborough, was detained by armed officers after the train made an emergency stop at Huntingdon, about 80 miles north of London. Investigators recovered a knife and are working to determine the events leading to the attack.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the assault as “deeply concerning,” and King Charles expressed shock and dismay. Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood urged the public to avoid speculation. The incident comes amid a sharp rise in knife crime across England and Wales—up 87% over the past decade, according to government data. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and bloodshed as passengers fled before police subdued the suspect with a taser.
