The Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD) strongly condemned an attack on the Penzberg Mosque in Bensberg, where racist and Islamophobic graffiti was found on its walls on Monday, September 29.

Council president Aiman Mazyek stressed that the incident was not an isolated hate crime but the result of growing tolerance for racist rhetoric, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute those responsible.

He underlined that the mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as a center of dialogue and community engagement.

The council highlighted the mosque’s role in promoting integration, respect, and tolerance within German society, stating that such attacks would not deter Muslims from their positive contributions.

ZMD called for broad solidarity against hatred and extremism and invited the public to participate in the annual “Open Mosque Day” on October 3, which promotes dialogue, inclusivity, and shared values.
