Quad Cities Muslim Volunteers Prepare 20,000 Meals for Families in Need

The Muslim community in the Quad Cities, in partnership with Islamic Relief USA, has prepared and packaged 20,000 meals to support vulnerable families facing food insecurity locally and abroad. The event was hosted at the Quad Cities Mosque, where dozens of volunteers worked together to fill food bags with basmati rice, dried vegetables, beans, and spices — each package designed to feed two people. Organizers emphasized the importance of addressing hunger at both community and global levels.

Amna Khawaja, a community member who helped organize the initiative, described the effort as a meaningful way to serve neighbors in need. She noted that the mosque regularly hosts food drives and donation programs, particularly during Ramadan. A significant portion of the meals will be distributed to local families, with the remainder sent to broader humanitarian projects. Islamic Relief USA conducts similar events nationwide to provide food assistance to struggling households.
