Unknown individuals set fire on Monday to vegetation surrounding the shrine of Sheikh Mohammed al-Ajami in the village of al-Khandaq, located in the al-Ghab plain of Syria’s Hama province. The incident caused damage to the shrine’s surroundings, which locals regard as a significant religious site with symbolic value for the Alawite community.

Residents expressed anger over what they described as a dangerous provocation targeting religious heritage and social cohesion. The incident coincided with rising violence in rural Hama, including a recent attack that killed four construction workers from the village of Jadrin, allegedly carried out by armed groups.
