Florida Proposes a Law to Replace the Term “West Bank” with “Judea and Samaria”

A bill has been introduced in Florida that would prohibit the use of the term “West Bank” in official state documents, requiring instead the use of “Judea and Samaria,” according to Israeli daily Israel Hayom. The proposal, introduced by state Representative Chase Tramont following a recent visit to the region, is expected to pass with majority support.

The legislation coincides with a visit by a delegation of eight local Palestinian Authority leaders from the West Bank to the United States, aiming to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and advocate for the initiative. Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump had opposed recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the area.

Israel’s Knesset approved a law in July 2025 asserting Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank and the Jordan Valley, describing the territories as an inseparable part of the historical Jewish homeland. The law calls for strategic measures to reinforce historical claims and ensure Israel’s national security. The Florida bill reflects growing international and local political support for this terminology.
