A collapse at Al-Khoizini Islamic boarding school in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia, claimed the lives of dozens of students and left many others injured, local authorities said on Monday. Around 65 students had been trapped beneath the rubble, with rescue teams working for more than 12 hours before operations concluded.

Eight survivors were pulled to safety, while several bodies were recovered. Emergency crews provided oxygen and water during the search. Families gathered at hospitals and around the destroyed school as the tragedy unfolded.
