Iraq’s Interior Ministry announced the discovery of 37 archaeological artifacts in the districts of al-Refai and al-Shatra, north of Dhi Qar province. The ministry said in a statement that the items, including several pottery vessels dating back to ancient historical periods, were recovered during security patrols and inspections at archaeological sites.

Authorities confirmed that the artifacts were preserved in line with legal procedures before being officially handed over to the relevant authorities, in the presence of representatives from the Dhi Qar Antiquities Inspectorate. The provincial police command added that Police Chief Major General Naji al-Abadi oversaw the transfer of the artifacts to the Nasiriyah Museum.

Dhi Qar province, home to numerous excavated and unexcavated archaeological sites, frequently reports discoveries of ancient items as security forces and citizens continue to support preservation efforts.
