On the International Day of Peace, the Human Rights Activists Union said Afghans continue to live under fear, poverty, and injustice, with widespread rights violations persisting across the country. In a statement issued on September 21, the group stressed that Taliban rule has severely restricted freedoms, noting that women and girls remain barred from education and work, while free expression is curtailed.

It added that tribal elders, activists, and journalists are either imprisoned or forced into exile. The union highlighted forced displacement, the deaths of young people, and the mass departure of skilled professionals as key obstacles to peace. It called for accountability for the Taliban’s actions and stronger efforts to combat extremist groups to ensure lasting peace in Afghanistan.
