Rising Violence Reported Against Shia Civilians in Syria’s Sayyida Zainab Area
………….
Fresh reports of violence targeting Shia civilians have emerged from the Sayyida Zainab area near Damascus, Syria. On Wednesday evening, an armed group affiliated with the so-called “General Security” under the administration of Ahmed al-Shar’a reportedly carried out an assault in the Bahdaliya district.
Local sources confirmed that a young man, Mohammed Khabeez, was shot and critically injured, requiring emergency hospitalization. Another individual, Ghandi Raslan, from the Shia-majority town of Busra al-Sham, was allegedly abducted during the same incident.
The Violations Documentation Center for Shia in Syria condemned the attacks, labeling them part of a pattern of targeted violence against Shia communities. The organization urged the United Nations and international human rights bodies to intervene and hold perpetrators accountable, warning of the dangers posed by ongoing international silence.
The Sayyida Zainab area has witnessed a rise in violence and security incidents in recent months, raising growing concern over civilian safety.
