Canada: New Islamic Schools Open in Windsor to Meet Growing Demand for Religious Education
…………….
Two new Islamic school facilities have opened in Amherstburg and Windsor, Ontario, to accommodate the increasing number of Muslim students ahead of the new academic year. The launches involved representatives from Al Noor Private School, Windsor Islamic Secondary School, the Windsor Islamic Association (WIA), and local officials. Together, the new sites can serve approximately 600 students.
The expansion follows the previous locations reaching full capacity, prompting the WIA to develop a new 95,000-square-foot facility to better serve the growing student population. The new schools also aim to attract Muslim families from outside the Windsor and Essex areas.
Since the start of the academic year, around 350 students enrolled in the elementary school and 80 in the secondary school, supported by a staff of 25 to ensure a conducive learning environment. Members of the WIA noted that families from Toronto have expressed interest in relocating to the area, highlighting access to quality Islamic education as a key factor.
The association invested about $300,000 in refurbishing classrooms and facilities, with plans for further improvements at the rear of the building to continue without disrupting classes. These developments reflect ongoing efforts to meet the educational needs of the local Muslim community.
