Pakistan Launches First National AI Techathon to Boost Innovation
……………….
Pakistan on Monday launched its first artificial intelligence (AI) “techathon” in Islamabad to encourage youth-led innovation and strengthen the country’s digital economy, Arab News reported. The event, titled Uraan AI Techathon 1.0, is part of the government’s Uraan Pakistan transformation initiative and aims to mobilize students, developers, and entrepreneurs to apply AI in addressing real-world challenges.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal described the techathon as a “national call” to build capacity in AI and enhance Pakistan’s presence in emerging technologies. The launch follows the unveiling of Pakistan’s first National AI Policy, which seeks to train one million people in AI-related skills, promote ethical use of technology, and transform key sectors through innovation.
Officials said the policy provides a framework for research, infrastructure, secure systems, and international partnerships. Iqbal emphasized that AI is reshaping global economies and called on Pakistan’s youth to drive solutions in health, education, agriculture, and governance.
