The U.S. has designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its armed wing, the Majeed Brigade, as terrorist organizations, Anadolu Agency reported. This designation was made on a Monday by the U.S. State Department, which accused the groups of carrying out a number of deadly attacks.

The designation subjects the BLA and its affiliates to sanctions that deny them access to the U.S. financial system. The BLA, which was previously designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. in 2019, is also banned in Pakistan and the UK. The Pakistani government accuses India of supporting the group, a charge that New Delhi denies. The conflict in the region has been ongoing for over six decades, with separatists claiming Balochistan was forcibly incorporated into Pakistan after the end of British rule.
