BNP Vows Not to Enact Anti-Islam Laws in Bangladesh
—————————-
The Daily Star reports that Salahuddin Ahmed, a Standing Committee Member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has pledged that his party will not enact any laws that conflict with Islam, the Quran, or Sunnah if they come to power. Speaking at a program in Dhaka, Ahmed articulated the BNP’s commitment to Islamic values.
In addition to this promise, the BNP leader expressed support for the expansion of madrasa education. He stressed, however, that these religious schools should not be co-opted as a platform for any specific political party.
Ahmed’s comments came as part of the BNP’s ongoing efforts to engage with a wide range of political, non-political, and Islamic organizations. He detailed meetings with leaders from groups such as Hefazat-e-Islam and the pir of Sarsina. Ahmed stated that the ultimate goal of these outreach efforts is to foster unity among all communities in Bangladesh and to govern the country in a way that prevents division.
