“Jeans Jihad” Allegation Shuts Down Muslim-Dominated Garment Hub in Delhi

A booming garment manufacturing hub in Delhi’s Khyala area, largely operated by Muslims, has been significantly disrupted by a sealing drive initiated by Delhi’s Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Scroll.in reported. The action follows Sirsa’s promotion of a controversial “jeans jihad” theory, alleging that Muslim businesses were displacing other communities and employing “Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators.”

Despite a lack of evidence or police reports, the crackdown has severely impacted over 15,000 workers, predominantly Muslim tailors who migrated from Uttar Pradesh. Many have been forced to return to their hometowns or seek alternative employment, experiencing drastic income reductions. Those remaining face constant disruptions and lost wages due to official inspections. This incident highlights the growing economic and social vulnerability of Muslim communities in India, facing targeted actions and increased hardship amid such unsubstantiated allegations.
