Five Yemeni Children Killed by Explosive Device While Playing Soccer
…………………
Five children were killed when an explosive device detonated in a residential area of Al-Hashmah subdistrict in Taiz province, southwestern Yemen, according to a report published Saturday by the Yemen Center for Human Rights.
The incident occurred Friday night while the children were playing soccer, eyewitnesses said. Three other people with minor to moderate injuries were taken to Al-Rafai Hospital.
Other witnesses claimed the device came from an area controlled by forces allied with the Islah party, though details remain unconfirmed.
The Yemen Center for Human Rights condemned the blast, sharing graphic photos and citing health sources who said the children died from shrapnel wounds.
The victims included two 12-year-olds and two 14-year-olds; the age of the fifth child was not confirmed. UNICEF acknowledged the incident but said it could not yet verify the circumstances.
