France Sees 75% Rise in Islamophobic Incidents in 2025

France has recorded a 75% increase in Islamophobic incidents in the first five months of 2025, according to the Interior Ministry. Officials registered 145 anti-Muslim acts from January to May, up from 83 during the same period last year.

Attacks targeting individuals surged by 209%, now making up the majority of cases. The spike follows several violent incidents, including the fatal stabbing inside a mosque in southern France in April.

France, which has Western Europe’s largest Muslim population at about 9%, has seen growing protests against racism and Islamophobia. Rights groups and community leaders are urging the government to take stronger measures to counter anti-Muslim violence and hate speech.
