Over 15,000 Syrian Refugees Return from Jordan Amid Rising Repatriation

Since May, more than 15,000 Syrian refugees registered with the UNHCR have made their way back to Syria from Jordan, marking a 45% rise from April’s numbers when nearly 10,500 returned via Jordan’s Jaber border crossing, media outlets said.
Following the fall of the Assad regime in December, approximately 75,000 refugees have returned to Syria from Jordan, representing over one percent of the six million Syrians displaced by the civil war that began in 2011.
The UN estimates that by March, nearly 1.2 million Syrians—both refugees and internally displaced persons—have returned to their homes after the political shift in Damascus.
In May, the UNHCR facilitated the relocation of thousands of refugees from Jordanian camps and communities back to Syria, a significant increase compared to the previous month, according to reports from the Syrian news agency SANA.
Jordan currently hosts around 628,000 Syrian refugees, based on UNHCR data from December 2024.
