Baku Set to Host Global Conference on Islamophobia Challenges

The Baku International Multiculturalism Center, alongside the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Baku Initiative Group, will convene the 3rd International Scientific Conference “Islamophobia: Exposing Prejudice and Destroying Stigma” on May 26-27, Trend news agency reported.

This high-profile gathering marks the 3rd anniversary of the UN-recognized International Day to Combat Islamophobia observed annually on March 15.

With participation from over 100 delegates representing 40 countries, the conference will feature scholars, interfaith leaders, and policy experts addressing pressing issues including the globalization of anti-Muslim sentiment, legislative responses to institutionalized discrimination in Europe, and the intersection of digital platforms with Islamophobic narratives. Special focus will be given to artificial intelligence’s role in amplifying biases and the unique challenges faced by Muslim women navigating cultural stereotypes.

The event boasts collaboration with major international bodies such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and Germany’s Central Council of Muslims. Academic sessions will particularly examine regional manifestations of Islamophobia, preservation strategies for Islamic heritage, and youth-led initiatives countering misinformation.

Established through a 2020 resolution by OIC foreign ministers in Niamey and later adopted by the UN in 2022, the International Day to Combat Islamophobia provides the framework for this scholarly dialogue aimed at developing actionable solutions to global anti-Muslim prejudice.
