Rockford Mosque Opens Doors to Foster Understanding, Unity

The Rockford chapter of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), in partnership with GainPeace, hosted an open mosque day at 1110 Arthur Ave. to clear misconceptions about Islam, WIFR reported. The event welcomed neighbors of all faiths, offering insight into Muslim faith, history in America, and community contributions.

GainPeace Director Sabeel Ahmed emphasized the importance of inviting curious non-Muslims to experience mosque life firsthand. Activities included virtual reality presentations, trying on hijabs, Arabic name writing, and henna tattoos.

Beyond prayer, the mosque serves as a community hub providing services like a health clinic for the underinsured and food and clothing drives.

The event aimed to promote tolerance, understanding, and harmony among diverse communities. Ahmed concluded, “We get to know our neighbors so we can live in justice, peace, and harmony with God’s guidance.”
